Utilizing the unique powers of the Nintendo Wii system, Retro Studios once again takes us to the beyond with bounty Hunter Samus Aran. You can use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers to pull off amazing feats like aiming and blasting in midair. The game runs in 480 progressive-scan and true 16:9 widescreen mode, which is a first for the series. The artistic presentation of the space stations, craft and planets that make up the universe is very impressive, seemingly more on par with the original Prime than its purple-drenched sequel. If you've played any FPS-style game on Nintendo's system before, you will probably be running and gunning in Corruption and absolutely loving the freedom and speed of the controls in a matter of seconds, not minutes. It really is the new benchmark and simultaneously proof that smart studios can really utilize the Wii remote and nunchuk for some dazzling results.
As always with any Nintendo game console, the first Super Mario game is one of the defining experiences on the system. When some creature escapes into space with Princess Peach, Mario gives chase, exploring bizarre planets all across the galaxy. Since he's in space, Mario can perform mind-bending jumps unlike anything he’s done before. He'll also has a wealth of new moves that are all based around tilting, pointing and shaking the Wii Remote. Despite what you encounter though, you'll have the same basic controls to work with. Players can control Mario with the analog stick, duck and crawl (as well as the trusty backflip) with the Z button, jump with A, and shoot stars at enemies with B. In addition you've got the spin attack with a simple shake, camera manipulation with C (centers it behind the pleasantly plump plumber) and d-pad, and use the IR with the A button for context-sensitive controls.
The most epic Zelda to date... the story is one of a kind, one that we've been waiting for in the series. Twilight Princess is for the hardcore and a game that can be a system seller for the Wii. In this version instead of traveling through time to save Hyrule, you travel in and out of two parallel worlds to bring back peace to Hyrule. You have a large variety of weapons, a long story mode, gorgeous boss battles, and a large vast setting. You use the Wii remote to shoot arrows and swing your sword, twist the nunchuck attachment and pull off a spin attack. Progressive-scan & 16:9 makes these visuals impressive.
This is the game that has been all over the news for its Adult Only rating. The sequel to Rockstar's sinister action game about a man who wakes up in a living nightmare where he is being stalked for sport and must sneak through the shadows and kill by whatever means he can devise in order to fight his way out. On the Wii version, you will act out your executions with gestures and button taps. If you're cutting into a man's skull with a saw, which you sometimes do, you might have to make a forward/backward motion with the Wii remote, hit the B trigger to a visual cue, and then gesture quickly upward with both controllers to put the finishing touches on the attack. The cartoony characters and bone chilling envoirnments make up some very impressive visuals we've seen on the console yet
The newest chapter of the Paper Mario story isn't just out of this world ... it's out of this dimension. What at first glance appears to be a 2-D sidescroller ripped straight from the pages of the Paper Mario universe soon turns into a 3-D action-adventure that defies all video game logic. Fusing 2-D and 3-D perspectives, not to mention RPG and platformer elements, the game slips back and forth between dimensions. The action sprawls across eight worlds filled with traps, puzzles, bizarre mysteries and items that often draw themselves out of thin air. Not only can you play as Mario but you can also play as Peach and Bowser.

At their E3 2007 press conference, Nintendo announced Mario Kart for Wii. The game will launch Q1 2008 and will take advantage of the Wii's online capabilities, allowing online versus play. After announcing that the game would release next year, Nintendo also announced they will package this game with a new Wii peripheral, the Wii Wheel. Players form an original team by combining one of 12 captains with three of eight sidekicks before competing in one of the game's many modes. Anything goes in Mario Strikers Charged, as players are allowed to use a variety of special abilities to clinch important goals. The defending player must use the Wii Remote to target and aim at and shoot these balls out of the air before conceding a goal. Each of the stadiums in Mario Strikers Charged has various characteristics and contraptions, which influence game play. Players must learn to use this to their advantage to truly dominate the pitch.
A remake of the blockbuster survival horror game, fourth entry in the Resident Evil universe not only takes players out of the country on a recovery mission but also into the arms of a whole new enemy. As Leon Kennedy, players will explore a town overrun by cultists, mutants and mind-controlled villagers, using the Wii Remote to aim, fire, slash and avoid oncoming adversaries with intuitive motions and movements. Added Wii Remote and Nunchuck support allows players to immerse themselves in the game as never before. This package includes the original game (with tuned-up control for the Wiimote) plus the playable bonus Ada Wong side-story, with added 480p & 16:9 Widescreen makes this a solid title. A true much needed improvement for the series.
The Scarface video game creates a gameplay environment that authentically recreates the historical time period of the film, touching on politics, news items and events of the day. As Tony Montana (in an alternate-ending story concept that follows the events of the original movie classic), players will travel through the steamy, often violent streets of Miami various other locations and will interact with a world full dangerous characters. The pointing function works really well in Scarface. Just like the PC version's mouse control, players now have near pin-point weapon precision that makes it easier and more intuitive to gun down the opposition with the huge assortment of firepower within the experience.
This entry in the Wario Ware series is so wacky, it could only be made with the latest technology -- the Wii Remote controller! The Wii version, WarioWare: Smooth Moves, seems to capture all the antics of the portable entries, but with the Wiimote used for some clever new game ideas. When Wario stumbles upon a strange device called a Form Baton, he and his friends use it to learn new moves that are as fun as they are wacky. Under Wario’s tutelage, and with the help of the Wii Remote, players will swing, spin and squat their way to victory. With more than 200 lightning-quick microgames and controls that range from scribbling to flailing, WarioWare for the Wii takes interactive gaming to a whole new level.
The first Resident Evil game for the Wii, Umbrella Chronicles takes place from the first person as your characters move through a fully 3D mansion. This action/shooter hybrid reveals the back story behind the fall of the Umbrella Corporation by exploring locations from Resident Evil 0, 1, 2 and 3 as well as new never-before-seen locations, such as Umbrella's stronghold. Using the Wiimote or the new Wii peripheral the Wii Zapper, you take aim at enemies and fire away. Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles combines first-person, light-gun style combat with interactive pathways, multiple weapons and new enemies to create an entirely new Resident Evil experience that could only be delivered on the Wii.
The evil Don Hedron has descended upon the peaceful forest with Black Water and it's up to Dewy, a small droplet of water, to eliminate the terrible scourge and save the towering Elder Tree. Take control of Dewy using the Wii Remote, rolling him around the environment and using special elemental powers with unique gesture-based controls to take on the dastardly forces of Don Hedron. Control heat and cold to transform Dewy into ice and steam to solve puzzles and restore a beautiful world of peace! Dewy's Adventure is a unique game with a unique storyline. The game has some of the most impressive visuals seen on the Wii yet. You tilt the Wii Remote to roll around little Dewy around the beautiful environments.
Sonic brings his trademark speed and attitude to the Nintendo Wii. Sonic has been at his best when he's stuck with what he was born to do: go fast. In the Wii game Sonic and the Secret Rings, that's what he does. The next-gen Sonic might get circles run around it by this Wii version, which looks great and moves fast and is full of non-stop action. Gamers turn the Wii remote on its side and steer the hedgehog through a series of missions that span seven diverse worlds. It is one of the prettiest Sonic games to date. The better-than-GameCube visuals run in 16:9 Widescreen and 480p.
Nintendo pulled back the curtain on a unique title in the vein of Wii Sports, but taken to the next level. Its called Wii Fit. It's a two-part package basically. Part one revolves around a console-exclusive peripheral called the Wii Balance Board, essentially it is a slim, white scale with built-in gyroscopic technology that very accurately measures shifts in weight and posture. Part two, of course, is the software that makes use of the device - in this case, a series of mini-game-like activities that challenge users to try different exercises for results that can be tallied and compared. If Wii Sports got your heart moving, and it might have, Wii Fit will really make you sweat and it will probably leave you sore the next morning.
A compilation of simple, Wii-playable sports games. Included sports are Tennis, Golf, Baseball, Boxing and Bowling. All of these sports games have a stylized look that's designed after classic 8-bit game designs but brought to life with full 3D technology and progressive-scan. Although each game will concentrate on the core mechanics of hitting a ball, swinging a racquet, and putting with a club, the games will offer full (albeit simplified) sports experiences of whole games in Baseball and Tennis as well as multiple holes to play in Golf. Also compatible with the Mii avatar system for a more personalized experience. You can have hours of fun.
A collection of mini-games, this Wii game includes a variety of mini games designed to make players familiar with the Wii remote control. Included are pinball, table hockey and pool, as well as a simple point-and-click shooting game and a minigame where you move your Mii (your Wii avatar) around on a city block. A total of features nine different minigames are featured. Released in Japan as a double-pack alongside an extra Wii Remote for two-player gaming. For its fifty dollar price tag, people can say this is a rip off because it only has 9 minigames, but think of it this way, Its a ten dollar game with a fourty dollar Wii Remote. Its worth it.
Survive nature's most devastating catastrophes in Disaster: Day of Crisis, a panic-inducing survival game for Wii. When a wave of natural disasters pummels the United States, a rogue special forces unit takes advantage of the chaos and seizes a nuclear weapon. Players race a car down a mountain to escape a roaring pyroclastic flow, dodge toppling buildings during a devastating earthquake and swim for their lives in a raging flood. No matter what happens, fight to survive. Along with the game's official description, Nintendo added that Disaster will also feature "Cutting-edge physics and gripping visuals" to re-create the sheer terror of major catastrophes. Details on specific gameplay elements were also added to the release, as Nintendo promises tons of action in varying styles of play.
In this adventure game directed by Goichi Suda (of Killer 7 ), you play as Travis Touchdown, a normal guy (with an otaku geek streak to him) who wins a Beam Katana through an online auction and uses the weapon to start a new career as a professional killer. No More Heroes takes place in the city of Santa Destroy, and you are free to explore the town to your liking, taking on missions large and small to collect money and purchase new weapons as you work up towards the 10 main killing contracts. Gameplay is all about using your Beam Katana (via Wii remote) to defeat enemies.

almost all of these games are not out yet. so, i think it might be.. "reasons to buy a wii at some point later on".
reasons to buy a wii in 2008
Also, most of these are still first-party games. Your comment that good studios can use the wiimote to amazing effect is still a bit dubious. Yes, some are starting to get in on the act, but 90% of the major titles you are pointing out are Nintendo titles. Until they can gain stronger third-party support, Nintendo is going to be stressed to put out the same amount of quality games as either of the other major systems.
That being said, all of these should put to shame any of the big titles on the other systems because of sheer playability. Forget incredibly complicated controls, give me plain ol' movement anyday. The Wii is the system... but to argue that their game selection is a "reason to buy it" instead of some other system is weak.
Where did you get the box art for Super Smash Bros Brawl?
Let's look at your list:
You list 19 games, 10 of them aren't out yet (1 might never come out), of the remaining 9 only TWO are worth playing and that's assuming you haven't already played an 8 month old launch title or a Gamecube/PS2 port.
Not exactly a compelling list of reasons to buy a Wii. I'm actually looking for a reason to keep mine, but I'm sorely tempted to box it up and sell it on Craigslist or eBay.
Metroid Prime 3 - Not out yet
Super Mario Galaxy - Not out yet
Twilight Princess - 8 month old launch title. Assuming we've already played it (fair guess) it's not a reason to buy anymore.
Manhunt 2 - Not out yet (maybe not out ever.)
Super Paper Mario - Too talky and boring. 86% on Gamerankings.
Super Smash Brothers Brawl - Not out yet
Mario Kart - Not out yet
Mario Strikers Charged - Very bad soccer game. 77% on Gamerankings.
Resident Evil 4 - Probably the best Wii game... if you never played the Gamecube version or the PS2 version. 90.8% (vs. 95.8% on Gamecube and 95.7% on PS2).
Scarface - You're kidding, right? This is a crap game. 75% on Gamerankings.
Wario Ware Smooth Moves - Collection of mini games. Never has been interesting, never will be interesting. If you have ADD maybe it's worthwhile. 82% on Gamerankings.
Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles - Not out yet.
Dewy's Adventure - Not out yet.
Sonic Secret Rings - Another garbage game. 70.8% on Gamerankings. Worse than Scarface.
Wii Fit - Not out yet.
Wii Sports - Nice... for the first week you have a Wii. After that there's nothing compelling about it. 77% on Gamerankings.
Wii Play - A $40 controller with a $10 game. The tank combat game (#10 of 10 games) is the only thing worth it. Even then it's only worth $10. 59% on Gamerankings.
Disaster - Not out yet.
No More Heroes - Not out yet.
I can't believe you put Manhunt 2 in there. Manhunt sucked and Manhunt 2 will suck also.
Trauma Center and Excite Truck should be in there.
Jordan:
Strikers will kick ass, and Wario Ware is really fun with four people. I know a lot of people will like those games. Not everyone immediately writes them off like you do.
And yes, Excite Truck and Trauma Center should be there.
So, there are definitely more than TWO games out now on Wii that are worth playing.
No More Heroes looks very cool too.
You didn't have Elebits, which is as close to the Wii version of Pikmin as you can get. You also didn't have Marble Mania, which is similar to Super Monkey Ball.
Good list, but put games that are out on it.
Who's paying you to write this? It's the most nauseatingly pr-filled thing I've ever read.
There are game boxes with less fawning blurbs than this.

If it's a reason to buy, I think we can assume you haven't yet bought. Which would mean you haven't yet played ..
Have you played Wii Play? There's no 'pinball' and no 'minigame where you move your Mii ... around on a city block'
